How’s Your Prayer Life?
Have you ever struggled with your prayer life? ME TOO! So like me, you’re either struggling right now with your prayer life or you’ve struggled in the past. Sometimes I struggle so much it drives me crazy!
So here are a few tips to help stay on track with your prayer life.
Don’t you love Holy Cards…just another perk of being Catholic, because we love our Holy Cards. I got hooked when I was in grade school. It was the beautiful art work on the Holy Cards that I enjoyed so much.
I still collect Holy Cards and I use them as book markers….whenever I pick up a book I’m reading, there it is. I’ll pause for a few seconds and say the prayer on the back of the card. I also put one in my daily planner.
Thank the Dear Lord for Prayer APPS! The one I like the most is called Catholic Short Prayers because it has an alarm feature built in to remind you to pray. I have mine set hourly from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm with various prayers set to pray through out the day. It features morning prayers, midday prayers and evening prayers with categories broken into prayers to God, Jesus, Mary, St. Joseph, Holy Spirit, Purgatory, Angels…the list goes on and on.
A church bell chimes on your smartphone when it’s time to say the prayer!
EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE!
As Catholics we’re taught to do this at the end of the day. I actually try and do this through out the day. When something happens, the Holy Spirit pings at my conscience in my head…I pay attention to the ping and think about how I could have done that in a more pleasing way to God. At that moment, I stop and examine my intent. I get clear about how I could do better.
Now, I know your might be saying…
I don’t have time to pray.
When I get that thought….
and I do get it that thought….
I remind myself…would I go days on end without talking to my son? When my parents were alive would I go days without talking to them. God is our Heavenly Father and Mary is our Heavenly Mother…they are our Heavenly Family…check in with them. Talk to them…ask how are they doing!
Think of your prayer life as a connection to your heavenly family. At least once a day, I just sit quietly, with absolutely no thoughts, no prayer requests, no asking for help….I just sit with Jesus. It always feel so good.
Now here’s my question….what’s your favorite prayer, and do you have a tip to share to keep your prayer life from stalling? Would you share that in the comments below?
And if you enjoyed this post and found it valuable, will you share it with three of your friends?
